Very simply put, diabetes means a high blood sugar. That is, too much glucose in the blood.
✅ NUTRIENTS
Food contains 2 types of nutrients:
macro - nutrients
micro - nutrients.
There are 3 macro nutrients:
protein;
carbohydrates;
fats (oils).
Tens of micronutrients exist:
minerals;
vitamins.
✅ FOODS
Most foods contain all the 3 macro-nutrients.
But there are foods that contain only carbohydrates: sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, coconut sugar, jams, jams, fruits, fruit juices, sugary juices.
There are foods that contain only fats: oils, lard, bacon, butter.
There are foods that contain only protein: tuna, chicken / turkey breast, egg white.
✅ WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?
The body extracts amino acids from proteins.
The body extracts fatty acids from fats.
From carbohydrates the body extracts glucose (and fructose).
So, if you have diabetes, pre-diabetes or insulin resistance and you have high blood sugar, that is, you already have more glucose in your blood...
…I guess it makes no sense to eat foods that only contain carbohydrates from which the body extracts glucose.
Your body is no longer able to lower your blood sugar, so you keep eating sugar by the spoonful?
When I say sugar, what I mean is: sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, coconut sugar, jams, jams, fruit, fresh fruit juices, sugary juices.
✅ IT SEEMS LOGICAL
If you’re already having problems with your blood sugar, (i.e. you have more glucose in your blood than normal), what is then the point of eating food (carbohydrates) that increases your blood sugar level?
I don't think that makes sense - unless you want to hurt yourself, obviously.
If your house is on fire, I think you want to call the fire department, not to get a gas tank.
But if the doctor told you that it is OK for you to eat bread with your every meal, it means that he is right.
✅ CEREAL AND FAKE CEREAL
One hundred grams of cereals or pseudo-cereals (dried before cooking) contain on average 70 g of carbohydrates.
That is, after you eat 100g of wheat, oats, corn, buckwheat, quinoa, rice, you will have an average of 70g of glucose in your blood in the next 2-3 hours.
✅ HOW MUCH GLUCOSE DO WE HAVE IN OUR BLOODSTREAM?
Have you ever wondered how much glucose an adult normally has in their blood?
I asked myself and found the answer.
A normal blood sugar level of 80 mg/dL means 4 grams of glucose in 5 liters of blood. That is one teaspoon in 5 liters.
When you have diabetes and you are constantly around125 mg/dl in the morning, it means that you have 6 grams of glucose in 5 liters of blood.
That is, the difference between a healthy person and one who has diabetes is 2g more glucose in 5 liters of blood.
Look, a 125g bag of Uncle Bens rice contains 100 grams of glucose.
Yes, brown or wild rice has just as many carbs/glucose as white rice.
Do you understand why it doesn't make sense for you to eat grains, cereal and bird food if you have diabetes?
✅ BUT WHAT SHOULD I EAT?
What would be those foods that contain the least amount of glucose, but the most nutrients (proteins, vitamins, omega 3, minerals) that are useful for repairing organs, muscles and bones?
✅ 2 CATEGORIES
There are 2 food categories on the planet that meet these 2 conditions simultaneously.
Products of animal origin such as: meat, fish, seafood, organs, eggs, caviar.
Vegetables that grow above the ground such as: cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, cabbage, parsley, asparagus, capsicum, bell pepper, lettuce, green onion, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
✅ PRACTICALLY
So, in practice, you should ideally eat:
a soup without any root vegetables;
a piece of meat / fish / liver with vegetables;
a huge multicolor salad with a little olive oil;
an omelet with a bit of Parmesan, for example.
✅ WIN WIN WIN
There are a lot of studies that show that a "diet" consisting of tons of vegetables, omelets, soups and a main course lowers your blood pressure, blood sugar level, glycosylated hemoglobin, insulin resistance, transaminases, triglycerides, uric acid, but they say that...
"It's not sustainable" or "It helps you in the short term but kills you in the long term".
The truth is that any diet that helps you eat fewer calories optimizes the parameters above because…
As you lose weight (regardless of the method) your medical test results will get better and better.
All that matters is that you lose weight.
But isn't that what all the doctors you've been seeing for so many years tell you?
"You need to lose weight"
Aren't you tired of hearing the same old song?
I can't give you any nutrition advice if you have diabetes. I can only give you information to ruminate on.
I'm just an engineer with a nutritional technician degree that has no value.
Before you change your diet with something you read on the Internet, it's better to talk to your doctor.
I write stories for people like me. People who want to give up obesity.
The best practice is to go to a specialist who has studied for 20-30 years who will design a personalized and balanced diet plan especially for you.
