Elon Musk and the Golden Rule of Weight Loss
I have kept my figure for over 13 years. One of the “secrets” of my long-term maintenance is that I NEVER keep temptations around the house.
The reason is simple. I simply don’t have the willpower to abstain from eating. I am also not capable of “eating everything in moderation”, which is a principle most specialists tout.
✅ TRUE SPECIALISTS

✅ THE BIG CLEAN-UP
This means taking a trash bag and throwing all the junk food you have lying around inside the bag.
Go through all the cupboards, one by one, the fridge, the freezer, study drawers. Throw out ALL the junk food. Absolutely everything.
Everything that might be tempting in the evening when relaxing after a hard day’s work and after having put the kids to sleep.
“Everything” also means those Wasa sticks.
Those jars of “natural” jams you bought at the farmers’ market as well.
It also means to throw away that jar of Nutella that you’ve been keeping around for years. You swear it’s already expired and you never touch it. Until you do…

✅ THE LITTLE DRAWER OF THE DIABETIC
Yes, that little drawer full of sweets for the children must go away. Keeping sweets around the house is an abuse.
You want something sweet? Take 1000 steps and go to the first corner shop.

✅ STORY TIME
Here are excerpts from my conversations with someone I used to work 1:1 with 5 years ago.
We had the “big clean-up” talk. She was telling me she’s tempted by salty snacks, not sweets.
She told me she threw all the junk food out.
And I asked: “Did you throw out EVERYTHING? Think about it”.
She says: “There’s still that jar of Nutella, but it’s been there for years, it’s expired for sure”.
I insisted on throwing that jar away. She refused. I said: ”Alright, you’ll see I’m right”.
✅ COMFORT IN A JAR
Three weeks later, she got a phone call from the manager of her father’s retirement community.
Instant comfort came from that jar. The whole jar.
In times of crisis or stress, rationality goes out the window.
Why that jar? Because there was nothing else lying around in the cupboards…
The big clean-up is for not for those days when everything goes as planned. The big clean-up is for those shitty days. So, most days.
Those days when you’re stressed, overwhelmed, irritated…or just bored.
✅ THEY USED TO CALL ME “RISKY”
I used to work in risk management for years.
It has refined my way of thinking. It has helped me get to know myself better.
I loved it.
It has helped me calculate my decisions more carefully, both in business and my personal life, as well as in my professional relationships.
I have international certifications as well as lots of experience in implementing billion-dollar risk management projects.
✅ THE RISK
In short, risk has 2 components: Probability & Impact.
The higher the probability and impact, the higher the risk and, therefore, the higher the mitigation measures required.
MITIGATE, vb., transitive = to moderate, to decrease, to dampen something
The higher the risk, the bigger the necessity to find solutions to decrease the probability, the impact or both.
✅ A RISKY EXAMPLE
You just bought a new car, say you paid 100.000 EUR for it.
Would you take it out for a drive without insurance? I don’t think so.
And you know why you wouldn’t? Because it’s highly probable that within 3-4 years a traffic incident of some sort will take place.
You can be a certified professional driver – you can get a big scratch on your car or someone else might hit it in the parking lot.
In this case, the probability is low (this doesn’t happen on a monthly basis). But WHEN this will happen (it’s a case of not “if”, but “when”), it will hurt your wallet.
This will translate into a financial IMPACT of a few thousand EUR (maybe more).
What do you do in this case? Transfer the risk to another entity.
What this means is that you pay another company to take over the risk.
You basically pay 5% of the value of the car annually and if something happens, you don’t need to worry.
🏆 PRO Tip: when leasing your car, insurance is mandatory. Do you know why?
Because until you finish paying for the car, the car is not yours. It belongs to the institution you have signed the lease contract with.
✅ FAT
Being fat is falsely perceived as “letting oneself go”, lack of discipline, lack of respect towards oneself.
But what about all the overweight people who are exceptionally intelligent, hardworking, disciplined, perseverant and who are role models in their communities?
🏆 PRO Tip: from a clinical perspective, obesity is a condition, not callousness.
✅ “WHO’S GOING TO WIPE THE BLACKBOARD CLEAN”?
I was in the 6th grade in a school around the center of Bucharest.
My father lived in the countryside and worked his a*s off so we can have a good education in the “city center”.
I was in some random class, sitting at a desk in the back of the classroom. The teacher came, sat herself at the teacher's desk and asked: “Who’s going to clean the blackboard?” (we still had those blackboards we used to write with chalk on).
No one answered. Suddenly, the teacher said:
“You, at the back of the class! Move your fat a*s and come wipe the blackboard, maybe you’ll lose a little weight”.
I didn’t go. When she turned her back, I gave her the finger. Someone ratted on me, of course.
I then heard:
“You’re callous. You won’t take part in my class again until your parents come see me”.
✅ THE LAUGHINGSTOCK
This happened around 25 years ago, at a so-called “elite school”, with so-called “elite teachers” in the center of the capital city. Do you think anything has changed since?
When you’re fat, you become the laughingstock of those around you – it starts from when you’re a child and it will last well into your adulthood.
Ladies, think of the looks salespeople give you when they say: “Sorry, we don’t have your size here”.
✅ IT HURTS, DOESN’T IT?
You know what hurts even more? That men, instead of ogling you, avoid you.
Instead of worshipping you, they ignore you.
I have never settled for being a fat person.
Ever since I was very young, I swore I would do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING in my power to look good.
If you are even a little bit like me and you don’t like to settle for mediocre results, keep reading.
✅ A FORM OF RESPCT
I know for sure that people want to lose weight and look good.
You naturally get more respect when you take care of yourself.
I am certain that people want to lose weight and have a posture that will increase their standing in their relationships with coworkers or clients.
Some people NEED to lose weight because their doctor told them the only way to get better medical test results is to become healthy again.
Perhaps men have less social pressure regarding their looks.
People will say: “You’re tall, you can’t tell you’re fat” / “A little belly is OK” / “Men have to be just a little more handsome than the devil”. These are all echoes of mediocrity.
✅ RISKY BUSINESS
For women, beauty is not just „required”, but also „expected”.
Being dozens of extra pounds overweight = a mountain of frustration, anguish, personal and health problems.
Being dozens of extra pounds overweight entails a low probability you will find someone who will like you “for who you are”.
Being dozens of extra pounds overweight increases the probability of hormonal disorders. Meaning: you’ll want to have a baby and you won’t be able to conceive one.
Being dozens of extra pounds overweight increases the probability of gestational diabetes.
Which, in turn, increases the probability of a complicated pregnancy and predisposes your baby to obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Last but not least, being dozens of extra pounds overweight increases the risk of a miscarriage.
THE STAKES ARE HIGH, LADIES.
From a risk management perspective, I would say the risk is overwhelming.
✅ WEIGHT LOSS
Weight loss comes from energy deficits.
In order to lose weight, it’s necessary to intake less energy than your body requires to function. And you need to do this as often as possible, for a long period of time. That’s about it.
