Body Dysmorphia
Dysmorphophobia, body dysmorphic disorder or whatever it's called in specialized literature.
You look at this guy, then you look in the mirror. You look at this guy again, again you look in the mirror.
And while you may look decently, maybe even better than most of your alcoholic friends who “only live once”…
An idea pops into your head.
“I don’t look good enough”
All the people around you are complimenting you and telling you that you look very good.
But you’re on Instagram every day and seeing pictures of people there makes this idea take shape.
And you end up insisting that it isn't so, that you indeed don’t look good.
You’ll say you're still fat and you don't look good enough.
You may very well be right and you may still have a lot of work to do before you get in the shape you want.
But what if you really do look good, yet you look in the mirror and still see yourself as fat?
I believe that many people who lose weight temporarily go through this state. (let’s not call it a condition yet).
I think this is called:
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Don’t get me wrong
I'm not saying for a second that it's not OK to want more, to look even better.
I’m not saying:
not to constantly look for solutions to improve your diet;
not to look for solutions to give up sugar, flour, alcohol, oil and tobacco;
not to look for solutions to improve your training routine.
not to plan your day better so you can get more sleep.
But look at these pictures.
You won't believe it, but this is what I looked like in 2021. I weighed 86 kg at a height of 1.85m. Yet I still saw myself as fat.
Do you know why? Because I needed to have good lighting and I had to tuck in my belly a little bit so that my muscles would be visible.
All the people around me used to tell me that I looked perfect, that I didn't need to lose any more weight.
But in my mind, I saw myself as fat and dreamed of losing just another extra 3 kilos in order to look really good.
A month after these pictures I would end up in the emergency room with broken ribs, broken toes, a broken kidney. Cycling accident.
A remedy for dysmorphia
Of course, there is a cure for any condition or disorder.
The remedy I found was: to gain weight...
When I look at what amazing shape I was in before the accident, I want to cry. (kidding)
When I look at those pictures, I realize that I looked very good indeed back then. It’s now that I really need to lose 5 kg.
I had to lose that really good shape I was in so I could mentally reposition myself on what my body realistically looks like / should look like.
If you are going through something similar, I hope my story helps you at least a little bit.
Now don't think I'm deformed or anything. My weight is constantly ranging between 88 and 92 kg as of 2021.
Here’s a picture from our previous teambuilding event – we went to eat skinless sausages at the legendary Obor market with our Body Engineering members.
I weighed somewhere around 90 and 92 kg.
Here’s a video from that event: CLICK.
✅ 50 NEW VIDEO MODULES
Between June and August, I filmed new video modules and my weight fluctuated between 89 and 92 kg.
Speaking of Wolverine
He got into this kind of shape after a team of 8 people helped him for 1 and a half years.
He had a personal chef, a nutritionist, doctors, trainers - the whole package.
Click on the picture and listen to what he has to say.
On top of 18 months of super discipline - add 2-3 days of water fasting before any film shooting, add some well-placed lighting, plus some special effects and editing.
So you can relax: there's no way you're ever going to end up looking like this.
You don't have the knowledge, the drive, the perseverance, the genetics, not do you have millions of dollars and teams of people supporting you at every step.
